This suffolk county wife and mother came to us for breast reconstruction on Long Island after the diagnosis of left breast cancer. She preferred to use her own tissue instead of breast implants, so we agreed to use the TRAM or "Tummy Tuck" flap to reconstruct her left breast.
Her mastectomy and reconstruction were performed simultaneously, and her breast reconstruction at Huntington Hospital went off without a hitch. She went home after 4 nights in the hospital, and we had to keep her from getting back to heavy physical activity for a few weeks.
She recovered well, and after chemotherapy came back to see us to finish up her breast reconstruction. The right breast was larger than she wanted, so we reduced it to match the left breast. At the same time we performed a nipple areolar reconstruction on the left side. A month or so later we tattooed the left nipple.
These photographs are taken at our Long Island plastic surgery office just a few months after her surgery, and the scars haven't fully faded. Bus she shows good symmetry, and you will notice that the left breast shows some natural droop, just like the right breast.
