Women today do not have to simply accept the unwelcome changes that come with age. Many women color their hair, treat their wrinkles with the latest "cosmeceuticals," and make diet and exercise a priority. Unfortunately, sagging breasts can undermine your efforts to look young and fit. For many women, a breast lift on Long Island, also known as mastopexy, not only restores their youthful, firmer breasts, but also enhances their self-esteem and sensuality.

Breast Lift or Breast Augmentation?
A breast lift involves removing excess skin and breast tissue, and moving the nipple, areola, and breast tissue to a higher position on the chest. This results in a more youthful shape and a lifted and tightened breast appearance. However, mastopexy alone cannot increase the volume of your breasts. If you are unhappy with both the shape and size of your breasts, you may want to consider breast augmentation on Long Island in conjunction with a breast lift. Breast Lift Techniques
The type of breast lift surgery Dr. Romanelli performs depends on the degree of sagging, or ptosis, that exists. As a general rule, the further the breast has fallen, the more extensive the surgery will be. Dr. Romanelli can perform breast lift surgery using one of three mastopexy techniques:
The Crescent (Minimal) Breast Lift
When there is just a small amount of sagging, this procedure can reposition the nipple and areola a bit higher on the chest. A small crescent of skin is removed just above the areola, leaving a small, subtle scar on the top half of the areola. This may be performed on both sides, or just on one side, to even up nipples that are a bit uneven prior to surgery.
The Concentric (Doughnut) Breast Lift
For women with smaller breasts displaying less sagging, this procedure may be an option. Also called the Benelli mastopexy, this method involves removing a circular (doughnut shaped) section of skin around the areola. The nipple and areola are moved to a higher position on the breast, but are kept functional as they remain attached to the nerves and blood vessels. The remaining breast skin is then reattached around the areola. Sometimes the sutured skin may appear slightly wrinkled, but the wrinkling will subside in the weeks and months after surgery.
The Lollipop Breast Lift
For larger breasts with a greater degree of ptosis, further incisions may be required. With this technique, skin on the lower part of the breast is removed, in addition to the periareolar skin. The incision encircles the areola, and then descends in a straight line to the bottom fold, creating the "lollipop" shaped scar. Additional skin is removed along this vertical incision, then the two sides are stitched together. Even with the addition of the vertical incision, this method creates less scarring than the anchor-shaped incision.
Anchor-Shaped Breast Lift
This is the most effective technique for women with larger, more severely sagging breasts. The incision pattern in this method encompasses the areola, the vertical incision, and adds a curved horizontal incision in the fold of the breast, forming an anchor-shaped incision. With this technique, more skin and breast tissue are removed, which allows for more lifting and shaping, particularly for patients who also need breast reduction on Long Island. With more extensive incisions comes increased scarring, but most women find this a small sacrifice in exchange for perkier, more youthful breasts.
